T-Mobile website leaks new G2 images

We thought we’d give you guys a break from all that tablet news today to show off a few new images of the T-Mobile G2 which showed up today. The three new images show off the front and side of the Android handset and clearly show that the G2 will be running a vanilla build of Android 2.2. It looks like T-Mobile USA customers are in the clear, but we’re still pretty confident that when the handset launched in Europe as the HTC Desire Z, it will be sporting HTC Sense. There are a lot of outspoken Android fans who clearly have some issues with manufacturer custom UI’s, but I’m sure most of you can agree that HTC’s Sense is a lot better than some of the other UI replacements that are out there.

If anyone’s interested in the G2′s new look, make sure you check out the new wallpapers from the G2′s leaked

T-Mobile’s G2 Gets Its Official Specs and Photos Leaked [Android]

Angry Birds beta flocking to Android this Friday

Angry Birds for those few that aren’t familiar is one of the top selling games for Apple’s iPhone and iPad and is about to wing its way onto the Android Market.

The basic premise (and it is going to sound odd) is that some malevolent pigs have stolen the eggs from a flock of (reasonably upset) birds who are now out to get their eggs back. Armed with a slingshot and a variety of birds that offer different attack styles you launch the birds at the pigs fortresses in an effort to knock them down and kill the pigs.

As bizarre as that sounds the gameplay is really addictive and the visuals in all of the versions that I have seen are absolutely fantastic so this is a real feather in Android’s cap (I swear that’s the last bird allusion).

If you want to get in on the beta the…

T-Mobile expands HSPA+ network, plans to double speeds

Today T-Mobile announced that their HSPA+ network has expanded to 100 million Americans in more than 55 major metropolitan areas and they plan to double its speed in 2011.

New markets that were launched today include Boston, Mass.; Erie, Penn.; Fresno, Palm Springs and San Diego, Calif.; Miami, Fla.; Richmond, Va.; Spokane, Wash.; and Topeka, Kan.

T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network currently offers theoretical peak downloads of 21 Mbps (which they are calling “4G speeds”), but that will double to 42 Mbps next year as the carrier continues to upgrade their network.

The T-Mobile G2 will be their first HSPA+ handset when it launches later this year. The device has a theoretical max throughput of 14.4 Mbps, which is faster than the 10 Mbps that is being advertised by Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network.

It looks like T-Mobile will continue to refer to their HSPA+ as 3G in the near future, but…

Hannspree tablet will feature Android 2.2 and Tegra 2 processor

And here we go again.  Hannspree has just announced their venture into the Android tablet marketplace with the introduction of an Android 2.2 powered device.  The Hannspree tablet will feature a 10.1 inch 1,024 x 600 pixel display, Tegra 2 ARM A9 dual-core 1GHz processor, Adobe Flash 10.1, Mini HDMI, Mini USB, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity.  Those specs may sound impressive, but we’re pretty excited about the 3,500 mAh battery which should be able last 8 hours while playing 1080P video files.  The price of the Hannspree tablet should be right around $500, though the release date is yet to be announced. It’s nice to see all these new Android tablets being announced, but we’re pretty sure that most of you are waiting for the big boys to make their announcements later this week.

The Samsung Epic 4G pops into Sprint stores across the country

The Samsung Epic 4G is finally available to purchase through Sprint’s website and retail locations across the country.  Retail price for the Epic 4G is set at $249.99 after a $150 instant discount and $100 mail-in-rebate if you’re willing to sign a new two year contract.  Keep in mind, if you’re looking into getting the Epic 4G you’ll be forced to the $10 monthly fee for the privilege of hopping on Sprints “first class” 4G experience.  Samsung’s Epic 4G is the third Galaxy S phone to hit the U.S. market in the past six weeks, but the inclusion of 4G connectivity, a five row QWERTY keyboard, front facing camera for video chat, and an LED flash all make the Epic stand a little taller than its Galaxy S brothers.

To see how the launch of the Samsung Epic 4G was going, I took a little fieldtrip to my local Sprint…

Check your pulse with Instant Heart Rate

Lately it seems like every few days I discover something in the Market (usually through AppAware) that leaves me highly impressed or scratching my head. Instant Heart Rate did both.

Instant Heart Rate uses your phone’s built in camera (and flash, if you’ve got one) to measure the color of the surface of the skin on your fingertip. In doing so, the app is able to detect tiny shifts in color each time your heart beats. When sitting still and in good light, I’ve found the app to be a near perfect stand-in for a real heart monitor. It really can dial into your pulse, even displaying the beats visually on-screen with a blinking heart icon.

I haven’t tested Instant Heart Rate without the flash- I assume it wouldn’t perform nearly as well. With the flash though, my fingertip was glowing bright red and the app seemed to have…

Motorola will not update leaked Android 2.2 DROID X users to official build

If you missed it, there’s been a leaked Android 2.2 build for the Motorola DROID X floating around for a few days now.  But before you try flashing the latest Android build to your precious phone, Motorola wants you to know that they will not be offering any support for those who update their handset to the leaked build.  While this stance does not sound too extreme, it’s a far cry from the approach that HTC took when EVO 4G users started flashing a leaked Android 2.2 build to their handsets.  We’re not saying that one approach is better than the other, we just wanted you to know what you’re getting yourself into before you find yourself at the end of a dead-end road.

WARNING: Do NOT load the leaked 2.2 upgrade that has been floating around on the Internets. There is currently no upgrade path from that load…
