Verizon roadmap gets updated: New details on enV Pro, Merge, Stingray, T2, and Venus
It has been a little over a month since we saw Verizon’s last leaked roadmap, but new details have emerged over at Engadget that paint a clearer picture of this coming holiday season. Some devices have been cancelled, some have been delayed, and several still remain a mystery. Read on after the jump for a breakdown of what’s coming in the following months.
October
- Samsung Continuum (SCH-i400) - This is the dual-screen Galaxy S phone that first popped up this week. Engadget’s tipster claims it features a 1 GHz processor known as “Garnett” which might be a refresh of Samsung’s Hummingbird processor. I know this device is floating around, but I don’t think most of Verizon’s testers have it yet, so a November release sounds more likely.
- Motorola Venus – Last week I was calling Motorola’s Tegra 2 phone the Venus, but someone corrected me

Samsung Transform and Sanyo Zio show up in Sprint documents
Sprint customers not that impressed with the Samsung Epic 4G might soon have a couple new options when it comes to Android phones. A new image that’s circling the web shows off the Sanyo Zio and the Samsung Transform. The Sanyo Zio is pretty old news, but this is the first time that we have heard about the Samsung Transform.
From the look of things, the Samsung Transform is pretty similar to the currently lineup of Galaxy S variants here in the U.S. but we’re not sure that Sprint would bother with yet another Galaxy S when they already have an Epic 4G. With a name like Transform, it’s easy to assume that the phone will most likely change shape in one way or another.
For now, all we can do it sit back and wait for more details to emerge.

Android Market opens paid app support to a host of new countries
Google tipped us that this news was coming last week and true to their word they have brought paid Market support for both developers and users to quite an impressive list of new countries.
The full lists are available by hitting the press release button below, but for those that are just interested in the numbers I’ll give an abbreviated rundown. They have added support today for developers in 20 new countries to sell their apps on the Market, which brings that total to 29. On the user side they say that over the next two weeks 18 new countries will be added to the list of those that can buy apps from the Market.
For developer’s they want to reassure you that you don’t need to do anything to make yourself visible to the new buyers as long as you targeted your app to “All Locations” originally….

Samsung Continuum for Verizon has two screens and is all Bing’d out
The Samsung Continuum hit the radar last month as part of the big Verizon roadmap leak last month, but other than a tentative October release date no information was available on the device until now.
A pair of separate leaks to Engadget and The Droid Guy have given us a few new pieces of useful information about this apparently soon to launch addition to Samsung’s device portfolio.
As you will see in one of the images below the Continuum will also be under the Galaxy S brand, which is a bit surprising as it is a definite departure from the rest of the those devices. The most striking new feature is the second OLED screen which is found directly below the capacitive buttons. According to the Engadget tipster this screen is referred to as the “Ticker” and it will display notifications, RSS feeds, weather, the time and will…

Speed Tests: Benchmarking the Android browsers
With an open ecosystem and unrestricted market, consumers always benefit by having the option to choose which product they want to use. One of the best examples of this is the number of web browsers available to consumers on the Android Market. Yes, many of them have unique features that give each of them a small advantage over the competition, but I’m sure we can all agree that speed is one of the main concerns for most of us.
To help us sort everything out, PC World has pitted some of the most popular Android web browsers against each other to see which one rises to the top. To be honest, the results should not be shocking to most of you who have used other browsers than Google’s stock option, but we were a little taken aback by the fact that Skyfire 2.0 did take the number one spot.
If…

Samsung Vibrant receives GPS fix, update quickly pulled offline
Last week the Samsung Captivate received its GPS fix and now it appears T-Mobile is close to pushing out their update for the Samsung Vibrant. Earlier today a new software update was posted on Samsung’s support page and several brave souls flashed it on their Vibrant to see what happened.
Those who successfully flashed the new update reported that GPS performance was greatly improved (along with some other bug fixes), but quite a few people also ran into problems.
For whatever reason, Samsung decided to pull the update from their site and now T-Mobile is warning their customers that they should not install the update “due to some known issues”.
T-Mobile says an over the air update will be announced soon, so I suggest leaving the leaked updates alone and waiting for the official fix to drop.
In case you were wondering, this latest update is…

Google introduces online gallery of all available Android phones
Are you in the market for a new Android phone? Google just made the process of comparing devices a lot easier with the launch of their Google Phone Gallery. This new online database includes all the major Android manufactures along with most of the carriers that sell their phones (someone forgot our friend Cellular South).
Android phones can be sorted by alphabetical order or release date. Users can even add up to three devices for a side-by-side comparison. It looks like most countries are supported as well since over 35 different carriers are represented.
Right now only phones with Google Mobile Services are listed, so don’t expect any of tablets or other devices without the Android Market to be included.
Check out the site and let us know what you think. What other features or additions would you like to see Google make to the site?
[Thank you c0uP…

Epic 4G update planned for tomorrow, should fix 3G speeds
Samsung’s Galaxy S lineup are among the best Android phones currently on the market, but that does not mean they are without issues that still need to be addressed. Most of you know about the GPS issue Samsung has been trying to work out, but another issue that many people don’t know much about is the supposed 3G upload cap on the Samsung Epic 4G.
Apparently, quite a few Epic 4G users have been experiencing extremely slow upload speeds while on Sprint’s 3G network. Keep in mind, these slow speeds are in the range of 150 kbps. While the numbers may appear to be low, the majority of users will not notice anything wrong since it’s very rare that people actually do a significant amount of data uploading from their handsets.
Without officially confirming a fix for this specific issue, a Sprint forum admin has let slip that an update…
