Swype has been my favorite way to type on an Android phone, but it’s been kinda limited in what phones can run the keyboard software. Until now! All you have to do is register at Swype and do…

Dear LG, can you also launch the world’s first Qi-enabled Android smartphone?

Every handset maker in the industry is starting to develop a reputation among the Android community. We pretty much know what to expect from HTC, Motorola, and Samsung.  However when it comes to LG, many of us are still trying to figure out their smartphone strategy.

To understand LG properly, we need to cover some basic background about the company. LG Group is the second largest Korean conglomerate company behind Samsung. LG Electronics is the world’s 3rd largest maker of mobile phones and the 2nd largest producer of LCD televisions.

We saw how fast Samsung entered the high-end smartphone market this year and…

Verizon confirms Android devices with 4G LTE coming to CES

Verizon Wireless just confirmed they will be showing off Android devices with 4G LTE support at next month’s CES on January 6th at their press event. This comes with little surprise as Verizon’s president Lowell McAdam recently said at CTIA in October that about a half-dozen smartphones and tablets would come to their LTE network in the first half of next year.

Possible Android devices that could land on Verizon’s LTE network include the HTC Mecha smartphone,  Motorola Etna smartphone, Motorola Everest/Stingray tablet, and maybe a version of the LG Star/Optimus 2X. Even though…

Motorola teases Honeycomb tablet unveiling for upcoming CES

Motorola’s PR firm just sent us a new teaser video which confirms our earlier speculation that the Honeycomb tablet we saw a couple weeks ago will be making another appearance at CES next month. The video centers on the evolution of the tablet from ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic tablets to the modern tablet. Along they way Motorola takes jabs at Apple’s iPad saying ”it’s like a giant iPhone” and refers to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab as running ”Android OS…for a phone”.

No details about Motorola’s tablet are shared in the video, but we already know that it will feature NVIDIA’s Tegra

“I had a dream that I turned on my Fascinate, and I saw it prompting me to update my operating system to Froyo”

“Tell us your Dream…” read the headline on Samsung Mobile’s recent Facebook update. A quick read through the comments shows that Samsung has many customers that are frustrated with the lack of software support for the Galaxy S phone.

This isn’t an isolated incident either. I wrote back in July that Samsung had a chance to upgrade their reputation and start fresh with the Galaxy S, after a poor track record of software updates for their first round of Android smartphones.

Now Samsung Mobile customers are becoming more vocal than ever and you can easily find their complaints…

How to place and receive internet calls with Android 2.3

Android 2.3 just hit the streets yesterday and we’ve been playing around with it on the Nexus S, but it’s going to take awhile to check out all the new features that Google crammed into this release.

One cool feature is the ability to make voice calls over the internet using a SIP account. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a signaling protocol widely used for controlling communications settings such as video and voice over Internet Protocol.

Anyone with a SIP account can easily enter their setup information into the new call settings menu found in Android 2.3 and then make…
