Samsung finally releases Galaxy S “Value Pack” update in Korea; US customers still in limbo

samsung_galaxy_s

Back towards the tail-end of 2011, and up into the very beginning of 2012, there was a lot of back and forth on whether or not Samsung would update the original line of Galaxy S devices past Android 2.3, Gingerbread.

We first heard that Samsung would be releasing a “Value Pack,” or Android 4.0-lite, [...]

Keep watch for the next generation Galaxy S

One of the great things about running this site is all the mysterious packages that end up on my doorstep. More often than I’d like to admit, I return home to find a shiny new toy waiting for me. Today, Samsung literally took it to the next step: sending me an actual toy.

Inside a rigid, plain black box labeled Samsung Galaxy S II, I found not a phone, but a chrome telescope. We were trying to figure out if this was even worth a post, but since we hadn’t seen it anywhere else we figured we’d throw it up…

8 reasons why I want the Samsung Galaxy S II (Video)

The next generation of smartphones is on its way, and one of Android’s advantages is definitely the wide selection of handsets that its open platform provides. After writing about the main features of the HTC Sensation, it came to my attention that most of you were comparing that device to the Samsung Galaxy S II, mentioning the reasons why you were more inclined to purchase one more than the other. It goes without saying that Samsung’s new flagship device is one of the most anticipated of the year, and it definitely has its advantages over the competition.

Like many…

Samsung launches Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 and 5.0

Smartphones have majorly changed the way we deal with daily matters and these devices have even become a necessity for many of us, but there are those that simply don’t need such a strong phone and would prefer a WiFi-only device to use as a PDA/multimedia device. Finding a good “phoneless smartphone” is not an easy task right now, unless one goes for the Apple iPod Touch, of course. Last January at CES, Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy Player, finally bringing a worthy competitor to the iPod (more specifically, the iPod Touch). At last, Samsung has officially launched…

Samsung Galaxy S II coming soon, 4 commercials released (Updated)

The Samsung Galaxy S series has gained a very high level of popularity in the U.S., one of the main reasons being that there is a Galaxy S device available on every major carrier (as well as some smaller carriers). Since Mobile World Congress, Samsung fans have surely been excited for the release of the nifty Samsung Galaxy S II, sporting specs that are expected to blow everyone’s mind. Clarifying the rumored delay, Samsung stated that the device would be released within April, but the actual launch is different in every country. Nevertheless, the Galaxy S II…

Samsung updates Kies in anticipation of Android 2.3 for Galaxy S phones

Update: A representative of Samsung has informed me that this Facebook page is not an official Samsung account. Any U.S. Galaxy S news will be posted on the official Samsung Facebook page.

The race to Android 2.3 updates is on. Yesterday several users started reporting that Samsung was rolling out a new version of Kies, the desktop software used to update Galaxy S phones. We were wondering what the latest release was for and it appears this update is laying the groundwork for Android 2.3 updates of the Galaxy S.

In a Facebook posting Samsung said, “You…

Samsung Mobile could offer the first Gingerbread updates to US carriers

Some would argue that Samsung and “timely software updates” should never be used in the same sentence, but we are starting to hear some rumblings that they could be the first handset maker to provide an over-the-air update to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) for US carriers.

Samsung recently announced on their Romanian Facebook page that the international version of the Galaxy S would receive Gingerbread by the end of this month. This sounds believable because the Galaxy S uses essentially the same hardware as the Samsung Nexus S, which was the first device to ship with Android 2.3.

So far…

Official Gingerbread ROM for the Galaxy S now unofficially available

Forget about the Samsung Galaxy S Froyo update!  How would you feel about a fresh serving of Gingerbread? We’ve heard for a while that Samsung’s Android team has been hard at work on their Gingerbread update for the Galaxy S line, but if you’re not in the mood to wait around for a long, long, long time (I can’t remember, is that how long we waited for the Froyo update?) for Samsung to roll out the update you can grab it yourself over on XDA-Developers.

According to Lorbas, the Gingerbread ROM for the Galaxy S comes directly from Samsung.  The…

Pictures of Samsung’s Slippery Galaxy S Tablets Squirt Out Hours Before Their Official Unveil [Tablets]

Is no product sacred at this year’s MWC show, due to start in just a few short hours? I only ask because photos of the Galaxy S II and 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab have appeared, showing off that sch-…

Corning shows us the future of computing with “A Day Made of Glass”

Not everyone is familiar with Corning’s Gorilla Glass yet, but many of the current Android devices out there are already using it. Samsung chose Gorilla Glass for most of their Android lineup (Galaxy S series and Galaxy Tab),Dell is a big customer (Aero, Streak, Venue), and it was used in the original Motorola Droid.

Manufactured using Corning’s proprietary fusion process, Gorilla Glass is all about thin and tough. You will find it all types of electronics from smartphones, to tablets, and big screen TVs (that can withstand a Wii remote at 65 mph).

Corning is still trying to get their…
